Paris rocked by riots for third straight weekend
Charred cars, broken windows and downed fences littered central Paris on Sunday, a day after the city was hit by France’s worst riot in a generation. Protesters trashed the capital’s streets in a demonstration against rising taxes and the high cost of living, leading to 133 injuries and 412 arrests, according to police. It was France’s worst urban violence since at least 2005 and the third straight weekend of clashes in Paris after protests began Nov. 17 over a fuel tax hike. French President Emmanuel Macron visited the graffiti-damaged Arc de Triomphe monument Sunday and held an emergency meeting on security, vowing that those responsible for the violence and damages will pay for their actions.
