Top 5 tips for doing Black Friday from your phone

To make sure you get the best deals you can, and don’t miss out, we spoke to Ru Bhikha, mobiles expert at, to get his top tops for doing Black Friday from your phone:

Stick to your game plan – With a treasure trove of Black Friday deals on your handset, it might be tempting to snaffle up ‘best buys’ on your commute, at work or even from the comfort of your bed. No matter how easy it is to go on a smartphone spree, it’s worth sticking to a pre-designed game plan – draw up a list of items you want, as well as the features you need, and stick to it.

Set up alerts – ‘Black Friday’ is a bit of a misleading name – the deal season is already well and truly upon on us. To stay on top of this, setup alerts with key retailers to notify you when prices change – Amazon, for example, has a dedicated app which will notify you when deals become available.

Get social media savvy – A number of retailers will save some of their best deals for social media channels, so get ahead of the curve and follow your favourite stores on the likes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Make sure you have push notifications setup for key outlets on social media channels so you’ll be alerted when certain deals kick in.

Sign-up with retailers beforehand – The Black Friday weekend itself can feel like a mad scramble and key items can disappear within minutes. Don’t get caught on the hop. Make sure you have set up online accounts with all the key stores before the main event arrives.

Compare prices – Of course, while speed is of the essence, it’s important to do your due diligence and quickly compare how the deal stacks up before you hit ‘buy’. Comparison sites allow you to quickly weigh up whether that too-good-to-be-true deal is actually the best price you could get.
