Trump Today: President wants to award Devin Nunes a medal as he continues attack against Jerome Powell
President Donald Trump suggested honoring Rep. Devin Nunes on Thursday, as he said he wouldn’t fire Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and had a freewheeling meeting with rapper Kanye West.
AWARD FOR NUNES
Trump fielded questions from “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning and said of the Russia investigation, “if this turns out as everyone thinks it will, Devin Nunes should get the Medal of Honor.” Later in the interview Trump said it was the Medal of Freedom Nunes should get.
The California Republican heads the House Intelligence Committee, and Democrats say he has used his position to protect Trump from scrutiny. Nunes has pushed the Justice Department for the release of documents related to the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
In the interview Trump also kept up his criticism of the Federal Reserve for raising interest rates, calling the central bank “too cute.” The Fed hiked rates last month for the third time this year.
Trump separately told reporters the central bank was to blame for the stock market’s DJIA, -2.13% fall on Wednesday, but that he wouldn’t fire Powell.

WEST VISITS TRUMP
West plugged his ties to sneaker maker Adidas ADS, -1.28% during a 10-minute monologue in the Oval Office as Trump listened mostly in silence. The rapper and entrepreneur was at the White House to discuss manufacturing, prison reform and other issues. The outspoken Trump supporter, who once worked with Nike NKE, -0.57% , said the president had given him the “heart” to partner up with Adidas.
“There was something about when I put this hat on, it made me feel like Superman,” West, who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap, told Trump.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND MIDTERMS
Trump told the Fox hosts he expected Republicans to do well in the midterm elections, and it’d be a “shame” if Democrats took the House. But he identified infrastructure as a possible area of cooperation. “They want it and I want it,” he said.
Asked by Fox about the possibility Gary Cohn, who formerly ran the National Economic Council, was a source for Bob Woodward’s book, Trump said he had stories about his ex aide “like you wouldn’t believe.” Trump also said Cohn always doubted his ability to renegotiate trade agreements with Canada and Mexico.

Trump also signed a bill that aims to reduce waste in oceans, and another overhauling the way music is licensed and songwriters are compensated.
