Jimmy, Rosalynn Carter released from hospital after medical episodes

Former President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter were released from a Georgia hospital on Thursday after both experienced recent medical episodes.

Jimmy Carter broke his hip Monday after falling at his Plains, Georgia, home ahead of a turkey hunt. On Wednesday, Rosalynn Carter “felt faint” and was admitted to the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, according to the Carter Center, the couple’s human rights organization.

The former president underwent hip replacement surgery and will recover at home with physical therapy, the Carter Center announced.

Rosalynn Carter stayed at the hospital overnight Wednesday for observation and testing and left the hospital with her husband.

The couple, in a statement through the Carter Center, thanked “the many people who sent well wishes.” President Donald Trump on Monday wished Jimmy Carter a “speedy recovery.”

The ex-president plans to teach Sunday school this weekend at Maranatha Baptist Church.
