54K New COVID Cases, 950 Deaths In US
54520 new coronavirus cases were reported in the United States on Wednesday, taking the national total to 32,983,695. The weekly average of daily infection is 52605.
950 new deaths were reported in the country on the same day. With this, the COVID death toll in the U.S. increased to 588,337, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. The 7-day average of COVID deaths is 712.
California reported the most number of deaths – 85, while Florida reported the highest number of cases – 5178.
A total of 25,584,747 people have so far recovered from coronavirus infection in the country.
The Department of State has urged American citizens in India to leave the country as soon as possible in the wake of the worse COVID situation in the country. “US citizens who wish to depart India should take advantage of available commercial transportation options now. Direct flights between India and the United States are offered daily, with additional flight options available to US citizens via transfers in Paris and Frankfurt,” the US Embassy in India said.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in its travel guidelines recommended that people in the United States avoid traveling to India.
India on Wednesday recorded the worst number of new cases since the pandemic broke out more than a year ago. An all-time record of 379,257 new cases a day on Wednesday took the nation’s total to 18,376,524. It is the eighth consecutive day that daily infection cases are crossing 300,000 in India.
With 3,645 deaths reported in 24 hours, which also is a new record, the number of Covid-19 fatalities in India reached 204,832.
The U.S. Government announced emergency COVID-19 Assistance to India in the wake of the dire situation. The White House said the United States is delivering supplies worth more than $100 million in the coming days to the country reeling under the coronavirus second wave.
