The Scottish Greens have promised to radically “transform” Scotland over the course of the next four and a half years. This comes after 83 percent of party members backed a power-sharing deal with the SNP. This will see the party’s co-leaders Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater be awarded ministerial positions in Nicola Sturgeon’s Holyrood cabinet.

Speaking after the vote, Mr Harvie promised to accelerate already existing SNP policies.

He told Radio Clyde: “This is an incredible opportunity to take green politics to the next level in Scotland as part of the Scottish government.

“We want to show the people of Scotland what green politics can achieve.

“I’m convinced we will be able to implement transformational ideas that will make life better in Scotland.”

The Scottish Greens co-leader continued: “There is a huge amount that needs to be done to get Scotland back on track for its climate targets.

“From shifting towards public transport to investing in green homes and expanding renewable energy.

“All of that is about continuing to grow policies that have been happening but not at the pace required.

“There is new work that needs to be done on tenants rights and moves to get rent controls will achieve a huge amount of relief for people.

Sturgeon and Greens deal looks ‘tenuous’ says Foster

“This is a four and a half year programme of work for Scotland.”

Veteran broadcaster and GB News chair Andrew Neil was one of the first prominent critics of the deal.

He led the charge today against Ms Sturgeon, warning her against signing a pact with the “Marxist” and “anti-business” Scottish Greens.

Opposition party members and Holyrood commentators have also issued stark warnings amid fears the agreement could decimate the Scottish economy.

Mr Neil said: “These are not your average Greens.

“The Scottish Greens are a radical-Left amalgam of 21st-century hard-line eco-activism and old fashioned Marxist class war – anti-business, anti-capitalist, anti-monarchy, anti-individual freedom, anti-car, anti-UK, anti-wealth and, above all, anti-economic growth.

“They make the Greens south of the border sound sensible by comparison.

“So why is Sturgeon welcoming them into her tent and giving such extremists their first dose of power?”

Mr Neil claimed the deal will “easily wreck Scotland” and stressed the party was led by “inexperienced chancers Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater”.
