GB News probe after ‘totally unacceptable’ comments by Laurence Fox

GB News said it has launched an investigation into what it describes as “totally unacceptable” comments made by Laurence Fox about a female journalist.

Fox, leader of the Reclaim Party,  made a string of vile misogynistic remarks about Ava Evans, the political correspondent for online news site Joe, during an episode of Dan Wootton Tonight on Tuesday (September 26).  Fox, 45, suggested that no  “self-respecting man” would “like to climb into bed with that woman, ever”.

He went on to suggest that only a “cucked little incel” would be interested in Ms Evans.  Fox added: “That little woman has been fed, spoon-fed, oppression, day after day after day after day”.

The comments were made during a segment tag-lined “hard-left commentator slammed for shrugging off male suicide crisis”.

Ms Evans shared a clip of the comments on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, with the caption “Laurence Fox just did a whole speech on GB News on why men apparently won’t shag me ?” which has been viewed more than 1.7million times.

In a follow-up tweet she added that the exchange made her feel physically sick.  Presenter Wotton smiled during Fox’s rant and laughed afterwards.

When Fox finished his sexist diatribe, Wotton – referring to the male suicide claim – said: “I’m just going to provide a touch of  balance for her, because she did actually respond to this earlier today saying that she regretted her comments, but she didn’t apologise.”

After a pause, Wootton then added: “And she’s a very beautiful woman, Laurence, a very beautiful woman.”

Wootton has since apologised to Ms Evans for the comments made by Fox. In a message to her on X, Wootton said: “I think you’re brilliant… I apologise for what was said during the course of my show and should have done this immediately on air.

“This is not what our channel is about.”

In a statement posted to X, GB News said: “Comments made tonight on GB News by Laurence Fox were totally unacceptable. It read: “What he said does not reflect our values and we apologise unreservedly for the comments and the offence they have caused.

“We have launched an investigation and will be apologising to the individual involved.”

Ms Evans’ tweet has garnered hundreds of supportive comments. Left-wing journalist Own Jones said: “All my love and solidarity – if Ofcom don’t take action against this nauseating unapologetic misogyny they should just pack up and shut themselves down.”

Fox and Ofcom have been approached for comment.
